Galileo excelled at the scientific arts of physics and astronomy. He invented a telescope powerful enough to discern sunspots and the moons of Jupiter. Galileo proved that objects of different masses fell at the same velocity. Called by the Catholic Church to renounce the Copernican model of the solar system, he saved his life by testifying that the sun revolves around a stationery earth. As he left the inquest, however, he is purported to have muttered the phrase, ‘And yet… it moves!’
